Support Groups

Support Groups are an informal way to link people who share common concerns or experiences. All support groups have the same goals: to give and receive emotional support, and to give and receive practical ideas in dealing with problems common to members of the group.

In a Support Group, individuals not only share their problems, but also their successes. Sharing and talking with others who have had either the same or similar experiences helps people to discover that they are not alone and that there are others who understand what they are going through. Confidentiality is a key component of all support and self-help groups.

If you are a person living with MS, or a family member / caregiver of a loved one with MS, and you are looking to find peer support and / or a social network to discover new ways to cope with issues you may be facing, join us now.

To participate in the Self-Help Group or one of the Support Groups being offered through the Mississauga Chapter, please contact Rose at 905-278-6186.

MS Self-Help Support Group

This Self-Help Support Group is a monthly day time group for people living with MS to discuss issues, to enjoy friendly conversation, and to build a social network. This facilitated Self-Help Support Group may not solve every problem that a person is facing, but it does offer realistic support, encouragement, and hope! It is one of the most valued services the Mississauga Chapter offers.

When: This group meets on the first Thursday of every month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Where: Eden United Church - 3051 Battleford Rd. Mississauga, ON (at the corner of Winston Churchill Rd. and Battleford Rd.)

Caregivers Support Group

This Support Group is a group exclusively for the caregivers of people with MS to discuss concerns, share information, and find solutions. Meeting one evening every month, this facilitated group welcomes new care givers and family members of the MS community.

When: This group meets on the second Monday of the month, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. (Or at the convenience of the group).

Where: Sunrise Senior Living - 4046 Erin Mills Pkwy. Mississauga, ON  (located on Erin Mills Parkway, just south of hwy 403)

“Guys with MS” Support Group

This guy-focused Support Group is a monthy evening group specifically for men in the Mississauga area with MS. This facilitated Support Group allows men to meet and discuss anything that the participants feel is important to them. As a more informal type of support system, this monthly meeting is designed to help guys with MS build a social network, find valuable support and practical information, as well as to organize outings that would meet the participants’ social and recreational needs. This is an excellent opportunity for guys with MS to be around others with some similar symptoms, questions, and concerns about their diagnosis.

When: This group meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm.

Where: Please contact the Chapter at 905-278-6186 for location.
